Our Sleep Physicians

Sleep Services Australia employ highly qualified Sleep Physicians, who report on all Sleep Studies and provide clinical recommendations as to treatment.

Our Physicians are also available for specialist consultations with patients prior to, and after, their Sleep Studies.  General Practitioners can refer their patients to our Physicians for an assessment of patients' sleep disorders and/or to implement specific treatment for sleep disorders.

Dr Linda Schachter (MBBS, FRACP, PhD) - Respiratory and Sleep Physician

  • Dr Linda Schachter is an experienced Respiratory and Sleep Physician specialising in obesity and sleep.  She is a member of the Australian Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
  • Dr Schachter has significant experience in the field of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, having specialised in this area for over 10 years.  As well as her consultation work, Dr Schachter has published a Doctorate on Sleep, Breathing and Obesity.  She now specialises in managing sleep for obese women, and is clinically active in a number of specialist areas.
  • Dr Schachter consults primarily at Sleep Services Australia in Hawthorn East, Victoria, and at the Centre for Bariatric Surgery at the Avenue Private Hospital in Windsor, Victoria.  She can be contacted at Sleep Services Australia on (03) 9832 2299.

Dr Vikas Wadhwa (MBBS, FRACP) - Respiratory and Sleep Physician

  • Dr Vikas Wadhwa is an experienced Respiratory and Sleep Physician with almost 10 years’ experience in general, respiratory and sleep medicine. He is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, the American Sleep Association, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
  • Dr Wadhwa has been involved in international clinical research in the area of asthma and chronic obstructive airways disease.  He has a major interest in the management of sleep disorders, having been in charge of a busy sleep disorders unit for the last 8 years.
  • Dr Wadhwa consults primarily at Sleep Services Australia in Hawthorn East; cnr of Collins Street and Swanston Street in Melbourne; and at The Centre for Bariatric Surgery at The Avenue Private Hospital, Windsor Victoria.  He can be contacted at Sleep Services Australia on (03) 9832 2299.

Dr Marcus McMahon(MBBS, FRACP, Cert. Med. Ed) - Respiratory and Sleep Physician

  • Dr Marcus McMahon is an experienced Respiratory and Sleep Physician with significant experience in general respiratory and sleep medicine.  He is a member of the Australian Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. He is currently completing his Masters Degree in Medical Education.
  • Dr McMahon has specialised in the field of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine for over 6 years. He is currently a Consultant Physician at Austin Health with the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.  He is a keen teacher and works closely with trainee doctors who are preparing for their specialist examinations.
  • Dr McMahon consults primarily at The Epworth Hospital and in East Doncaster, Victoria.  Dr McMahon also consults at The Austin Hospital with the Victorian Respiratory Support Service, who provide non-invasive ventilation support for patients with chronic respiratory failure.  He can be contacted at his rooms at the Epworth Consulting Suites on (03) 9426 8810; East Doncaster rooms on (03) 9842-4322; or via his paging service on (03) 9387 1000.

Dr Celia Zubrinich (MBBS (Hons), FRACP) - Respiratory and Sleep Physician

  • Dr Zubrinich is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician who has been working in the field of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine for the past four years.
  • She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the Australasian Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Dr Ryan Hoy (MBBS, FRACP) - Respiratory and Sleep Physician

  • Dr Ryan Hoy is an experienced Respiratory and Sleep Physician with over three years of experience in this field. He is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
  • Dr Hoy has a keen interest in occupational health and safety, including the association between sleep disorders and workplace accidents, and is currently completing his Masters Degree in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Monash University.

Our Sleep Scientists

We employ very experienced and professional Sleep Scientists to conduct our sleep studies, using advanced diagnostic equipment and software. Our Operations Manager and Chief Sleep Scientist, Tristia Lakey, has over 13 years' experience in sleep medicine, and oversees a dynamic team at our Head Office.

Ongoing training and professional development is encouraged, with staff being kept up to date on newest equipment releases, clinical developments, and industry updates.

We offer efficient sleep study turnaround, with analysis and reporting usually completed within 10 days of the Sleep Study being undertaken.

Sleep Workshops and Presentations

Through our interactive presentations, Sleep Services Australia can offer your company or practice the opportunity to hear about our services at a time that suits you.  As an example, our service can involve a presentation to:

  • Medical Practitioners or Allied Health Professionals,
  • a group of employees (either pre-employment screening, or as part of your overall occupational health strategy),
  • Occupational Health and Safety risk assessors or managers,
  • Corporate Health service providers; or
  • Practice staff.

Our senior staff can attend at your offices or workplace, and provide a comprehensive overview of our services, including:

  • sleep disorders and their treatment - including risks of going without diagnosis and treatment, or
  • a specific area that are relevant to your company - such as the relationship between driver performance and sleep disorders, or shift work and its effect on sleep; and
  • how to arrange your employees to be screened with a Sleep Study.

CPAP Service Clinic

Sleep Services Australia provide a professional CPAP Clinic, which offers:

  • Full trouble-shooting and support for patients on CPAP,
  • Comprehensive introduction to CPAP for patients starting CPAP treatment
  • Professional mask fitting
  • Adjustment of pressure on equipment
  • Trial hire of CPAP machine and mask for a 4-week period
  • Follow-up with patients to ensure equipment is in good working order
  • Conducting follow-up Treatment Review sleep studies - at regular intervals after commencement of treatment, then yearly (or more regularly) sleep studies to monitor the effectiveness of CPAP for each individual patient.

How to become an SSA Sleep Study or Treatment Provider

We offer an excellent practice training course for medical staff in your practice or company, so you may consider having an in-house medical practice dedicated to diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
