Dr Linda Schachter
Dr Linda Schachter, Medical Director of Sleep Services Australia, has been a sleep and respiratory specialist for 16 years with an interest in the diagnosis and treatment of all sleep disorders.
Linda has a long-term research interest in the effects of obesity on sleep apnoea, lung function, asthma and the effects of weight-loss on these conditions.
Linda has just finishing a trial in conjunction with Monash University, the Alfred hospital and Baker IDI looking at surgical vs medical weight loss in obese patients with severe obstructive sleep apnoea. Current ongoing trials include looking at causes of hypertension in obesity and changes with weight loss.
She is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, Australasian Sleep Association, American Sleep Association, American Thoracic Society and the Obesity Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Mariannick Le Guen
Dr Mariannick Le Guen completed her medical training in 2000 and underwent basic physician training at Monash Medical Centre before electing to undergo advanced physician training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.
She spent one year at Geelong Hospital as Respiratory Registrar before completing her advanced training at the Austin Hospital working in both General Respiratory and in the Ventilation Unit.
Dr Le Guen is currently undergoing a PhD. investigating obstructive sleep apnoea in people with quadriplegia which she will complete in 2013.
Dr Stephen Friedmann
Dentist, Dr Stephen Friedmann has been involved in the care and treatment of patients with problems arising from grinding their teeth for over 30 years.
An early professional interest in these problems led to liaising with Physiotherapists, Neurologists, Pain Management specialists and Sleep Physicians. He has been treating patients with snoring and Sleep Apnoea problems for some 20 years.
As a result of this ongoing interest he is now establishing Melbourne's first SomCentre in association with Sleep Services Australia and is looking forward to being involved in the on-going care of these patients.
