Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists

The advantages of our services

Unlike traditional sleep laboratories, we ensure that patients with suspected sleep disorders are tested in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their own home, and because the same parameters are measured, your can be assured that our results are reliable and accurate

We also offer your patients the luxury of choice - patients can select the time and place of their sleep study to fit in with their schedule and lifestyle, without any waiting lists.

Our services are very  convenient for doctors, too - a referring practitioner can order a comprehensive sleep study with short notice (this is particularly important for patients suspected of having severe sleep disorders or who experience dangerous daytime sleepiness), and we will usually provide a report and clinical recommendations within 7-10 working days of the Sleep Study.  We can also implement treatment immediately upon diagnosis, or refer patients to a suitable service provider.

Overall, our streamlined services ensure comfort and peace of mind for the patient, while providing much-needed diagnosis data in a timely and professional manner to help doctors to evaluate and treat sleep disorders.

Diagnosis through home-based Sleep Studies

Our Sleep Studies can be used to diagnose a range of sleep disorders, including snoring, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, Periodic Leg Movement Disorder, and Insomnia.

We use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, which monitors the following parameters during a Sleep Study:

  • EEG - brain-wave pattern
  • EOG - eye movement
  • ECG - cardiac function
  • Nasal Airflow & Snoring
  • Respiratory and Abdominal Effort
  • Oxygen Saturation – measured through Pulse Oximetry
  • Limb Movements, and
  • Body position.

Once a patient's results are analysed by our highly qualified and experienced sleep scientists, a fully staged and scored report is provided to the referring physician, together with a clinical diagnosis and recommendation.

Our in-house Respiratory and Sleep Physician reports each test and makes appropriate recommendations as to treatment.

As part of our full-service approach, we also offer treatment for diagnosed sleep disorders (supervised  by our Sleep Physician), assist patients through our excellent CPAP Clinic service, and offer subsequent Sleep Studies to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.

Surgical Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

>Several surgical procedures are used to increase the size of the airway, though no surgery is completely successful or without risks.   Some of the more common procedures include removal of adenoids and tonsils if enlarged, nasal polyps or other growths, or other tissue in the airway, and correction of structural deformities.

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) is a procedure used to remove excess tissue at the back of the throat (tonsils, uvula, and part of the soft palate).

The success of this technique currently ranges from 30% to 60% success rate. The long-term side effects and benefits are not known, and it is difficult to predict which patients will do well with this procedure.

Prior to upper airways surgery, we advise that your patients undergo a comprehensive Sleep Study with Sleep Services Australia.

Sleep Services Australia can help to screen for OSA

When a patient undertakes a comprehensive home-based sleep monitoring study, the following functions are monitored and recorded:

  • Breathing
  • Oxygen levels
  • Brain activity
  • Cardiac activity, and
  • Body movements.

When the sleep study is completed, the results are analysed according to complex criteria, and these taken together will indicate a diagnosis.  Our in-house Sleep Physicians provides a clinical diagnosis and recommendations for treatment options.
